Double Bass Hypothetical Question: The Value of Things.

How much would you pay for an instructional DVD by Bottesini or Koussevitsky or Dragonetti?


Length and subject matter doesnt really matter as long as its on upright bass technique. What if it was a window into their styles?

At what price point would you pay for this documentation?


Those masters are gone and this cannot be done, but what would it be worth to you?

I think they would all be valuable from a performance practice point of view, in terms of how they phrased etc, but in terms of their own technique I don't know how much value there would be aside from it just being interersting to know.

Bass playing has come so far, especially in the past 20 years, that we either have come upon whatever "secrets" they may have had, or have found another way to accomplish difficult passages without those "secrets" that may be just as good or better.

That being said, I think I'd have liked to have seen Bottesini play the most, not because I like his music the most, but because i think he would have been the best entertainer and technically impressive of the three.

There must surely be some film of Koussevitsky performing... it would be nice if someone could track that down and issue it.
