I Ain't Feelin' It

Life has been good to me and my wife in terms of money and having wonderful children and grand children. I will be retiring soon. Presently, I am still working over 80 hours per week and have been doing that for the last 25 years. That happens when you found and own the company you work for.

I could buy any music gear that I want regardless of price, but I won't. Our son lives w/ Addyson's Disease. It is better that I leave him $$$ instead of expensive basses. There is no cure for him and he will always be limited in what he can do.

I have 4 basses and for my family's situation, that is enough.

If you're looking for something to buy with your refund that doesn't cost a whole lot, get yourself some sort of audio video recording device. You'll have hours of fun with it since you like to make videos. Recording yourself is a great learning tool to go hand in hand with your lessons. You'll also realize how great your current basses sound, kind of like when you hear them played by someone else.

In my case, I think a lot of GAS is just curiosity about stuff I see on the internet but can't try out. I'll bet if I could check it out at a local store I would realize my gear is just fine.

Then again, it might have the opposite result! :eek:

I am not saying my GAS is dead, I am just saying that I feel my perspective is changing with age, and I guess that is just natural. The older I get, the reality that I have a shorter future than past has really hit home. Material things just have a different meaning now.

I'm not depressed. I have had decent career success, and a beautiful family. I could use more money, but that just makes me average.

I am happy that I am satisfied with my basses. Bass Viking's suggestion of better recording gear makes lots of sense because I do like to make short videos a lot.:thumbsup:

This is kind of morbid coming to deal with your own mortality. I love the wisdom I've acquired along the way because life is a great teacher. Nonetheless, I still choose to live life to the max each day - I'm still a 22 year old at heart.

Unless I win the lottery or have some other financial windfall, I'm still pkanning to acquire instruments that I want without getting too crazy. No Fodera on my radar screen.

I'm not a collector, I'm a musician - so I'm going to be playing whatever I acquire. Let's enjoy and make the most of the time we have.

+1. In the old days when I only had 1 bass and 1 amp, a new set of strings was my cure for GAS.

I hear you, im going thru the same thing, ive completly liquidated most of my gear and just kept 2 P basses and a jazz bass, hell i even sold my pre cbs because it was just locked up in a gun safe and was worrying what the vintage market is gonna do, i figured sell it make a prophet and not take a chance on the market, im not even giging anymore but i have the bare essentials if i do again..

This quote made me smile when I started playing back in Aug '87, my first bass was a secondhand Marlin KB24 Sidewinder & a Marlin 15 watt combo. I didn't get new strings for it till Aug '88 when I was bought my first set of Rotosound RS66 strings, that bass sounded a little better after that. Simpler times :).

GAS is a bitch, for sure....Especially when you satisfy it with hard-earned cash and - a few weeks later - the bass (or amp, or effect, etc) isnt what you thought it would be

I truly believe GAS is more about the Thrill of the Chase than actually capturing your prey

As Spock said in the TOS "Amok Time" episode: “After a time, you may find that having is not so pleasing a thing as wanting. It is not logical, but is often true"

I'm not getting anything including the mid tech knife. I am going to hold on to some money for change. I already have five basses, and a sixth on the way including a Fender Dimension V that I wish I had not laid away because I need it like I need a hole in my head.

I am just about 14 months with my DJ5 as my favorite with a number of different flavors that I play from time to time. Contentment really feels good!:bassist:

Well I believe in the phrase "you cannot take it when you go so you might as well spend it and enjoy it while you can." However there also comes a time when you do alter that view on some things, perhaps you're just really happy with your current gear that you feel you just do not have a dire need of anything right now. Besides having money for a later rainy day is always a good thing too.

I find it funny that in other threads people are talking about selling cars for used Foderas. And "what's the best bass for $20,000" etc
