I am looking for a really simple and really good buffer.

I like the one attached to the Cali 76CB. ;)

I did this dive a while back, there are a whole bunch...most of which seem to do the job with transparency. I ended up with a T1M unit (from a TB'er second hand), but there's a lil' true tone, out there that would probably also be a good option.

My tongue in cheek comment is use a boss Tuner, since i already have one and does the job when i have a few longer cables ;)

Several companies do offer a stand alone buffer like JHS, etc. But I've never gone out of my way to get a buffer

The buffers in my polytune mini (v3) tuners are the perfect buffer - they take up zero space (I need to have a tuner on every board anyway), they don't add noise, they just work. If you don't want a tuner, they make their bonafide buffer, which is the same buffer, in that same small package. The buffer alone is $69, with the tuner it's $99.

This is what I use, works great for me.

The Polytunes are also really good tuners, fast, accurate and easy to read. And a buffer bonus.

I have a fox k-buffer for sale in the classifieds, it’s smaller than a mini pedal and since it is always on it can be placed under the pedal board.

Like the others said, having at least one buffered pedal has a similar effect.

Thanks for the input thus far!!

It's really frustrating... I look at buffers on websites and hardly anyone gives any useful technical data. Why might that be; Am I asking for too much?

^^^^^ I was literally running in here to say I've got a Broughton HPF as a buffer since it's on 100% of the time.

Well, in the big pedalboard I've got the VFE Klein Bottle doing buffer duties, but since those are tough to find now, and kinda big for that job heh, the Broughton's more practical.
