I Am Lost With This One

I hate to tell you this Blue but as long as you go out and keep looking for these "younger" pop rock bands you might as well get used to it. I Dont know about you but I have no time for that stuff. I want to play with mature, experienced players who are dedicated and wont waste my time.

Well just to expand, one of the bands was not so young the guys were in their 40s and the lead guy was 50. They didn;t tell me you had to look like a local Red neck to get in with them.

Instead of tuning down a half-step, why not just tune as you normally would and PLAY the tunes a half step down?

OK, so without downtuning, how would you play an e flat with the root note on the low E string?

Having to play a low Eb isn't the same as someone calling the open note a E when in reallity it is a Eb.

So it wasn't that they were inexperienced players it was that you felt they were looking for fellow Redneck players..right?

Did you screen them before doing the try -out?

I think the problem is you're thinkng in terms of fret position as opposed to what the notes are.

If some tells me to play a g minor, i'll play a g minor regardless of how i'm tuned.

if we're down tuned and I want someone to play a G I will mean the 2nd fret of the E string. my guess is you'd still go for the 3rd fret

Ah, but I am thinking in terms of notes, not frets. I'd do the exact same thing you did if someone told me to play G. I was talking about the tone thing, but that's resolved so it doesn't matter.

No, these guys were experienced. They wanted someone that looked like them. Hell, it would never work out in a band with guys like that.

A lot of 90's rock was tuned to Eb (i.e. Green Day, STP, Presidents of the USA). I subbed with a 90's/grunge tribute band for a month or two, and that's exactly what they did.

If there is a Van Halen tune that wasn't originally played with all stringed instruments tuned down 1/2 step then I am not aware of it, and they started in the 70's.

Have you never played any Black Sabbath before or something?
