Obviously not: the player of the "little bass" is...cherish the moment, JB...maybe one day he'll want to glom onto your 4 string hardware, & maybe out-play you. FWIW, our 4 year old is crazy for my guitars & basses also. I bought her a little pink Harmony 6 string that she loves to rock out with.

I hope he does out play me. I am mediocre at best. He has so much ahead of him though, so much time with which to get awesome.

That's great. My daughter, also nearing two, only likes percussion and dance. Strings and melody are too much trouble.

So how do you like that Mandobird, did you get it setup? That was quite an ordeal you went through with that one.

Oh yea, digging it.

Turns out they (mandobirds) use guitar strings of a light gauge, so I got replacements and got the frets all cleaned up and whatnot. D string was wrapped a little funny around the bead, so the wire keeps it from going all the way through to the bridge like the others, so it detunes pretty easily, but while it remains in tune, it's awesome.

Been learning REM songs. Mastered Losing My Religion yesterday in between letting my son tool around with it. He Actually started experimenting with frets and how they work and got a simple couple chords down. I am very excited about it.

I have almost the exact same pic of my son, nearly two at the time, with an identical looking 8-string mandobird. Your son looks like he's actually playing, though.

I need to take a father-son pic with mandobird and thunderbird.

He was playing, after a fashion. He was strumming and fretting different ways. Not a real tune, but he was testing it out pretty good.

Then I was "is it a Firebird? or some kind of 8 string bass monster?"(never have seen one)
And now I'm like "Oh, he's going to grow up and be the best type of guitarist. One with a profound sense of rhythm."

So it's a Mandobird? Is that seriously what it's called?
