I Blame You, TB...

Kind of, yeah :D I hesitate to say that my Ampeg deal was all about social media presence since I play with some fairly high profile former rock stars of the 50's, 60's and 70's, but it was a good part of it. Basically, if it's provable that your social media presence sells gear and it's also provable that you're sincere about your opinions, you can sometimes get a deal. But it ain't easy for someone to get a deal that way unless it's a smaller company. Ampeg actually came to me and offered me a deal...I didn't go to them. Quite frankly, at the time, I didn't care one way or the other. I just thought their new gear was getting a bad rap because of the overseas move and thought it was quite improved over the old stuff, and people bought Ampeg gear and told them it was because of me. So it's not enough just to have social media presence...a level of sincerity and a track record of using their gear and loving it must be there as well.

I am an endorser. I endorse the gear I use and allow Ampeg (and for a brief period, EMG) to use my name as they see fit to sell amps. And while Ampeg is giving me their stamp of approval in a manner of speaking and I consider it quite prestigious, it's not like people buy tickets to our shows because they know I use Ampeg :D so the artist is the endorser.

And BAM!, there it is. Thanks for that, JimmyM. Screw the search function! Haha.

Gotta ask though, wouldn't buying any company's gear be considered an endorsement of the company? Or do you have an exclusive deal, where you only play their gear? I once, too, had an Ampeg endorsement long ago. Along with Fender and GHS. It was brief, but I miss it. Free, or nearly free stuff is certainly the sweetest of the sweet stuff.

The difference is if I buy something, other players may consider it me giving them my stamp of approval, but I don't allow them to use me in their advertising. As far as exclusivity, nobody's even mentioned it, and occasionally I'll get a non-Ampeg supplied to me and I'll have to use it because nobody's stopping the show and missing out on a payday because I didn't get my SVT. But other than that, I use Ampeg exclusively out of choice.

And yes, you are right...endorsements are super sweet :D

1. I learned that some people really hate mixed cabs/drivers.
2. I've learned a lot about gear, maintaining it, and setup.
3. I've learned some tips about technique and theory that have made me a better player.
4. I got a good deal on a Ric 4004Ci that I absolutely love.
5. I've had quite a few laughs.
6. I've bought a couple other pieces of gear based on what I've read here--nothing I've regretted yet.

I went from having three basses to seven. Thanks TB.
I never had a P bass till after I joined. But I was ready.
I only have two tort guards and it's not on my P bass with flats. It's on my Jazz with tapes and my SB-2 with rounds.
I used to have two 410's, now I have four 12's. Thanks Roger Baer.
I only had ears for Eden amps. Now I know who Jeff Genzler is and own some Genz Benz gear that I love.
I fell in love with my 46 year old tube amp all over again and use it regularly now instead of storing it in the basement. Thanks JimmyM.
I learned a ton and also that I knew squat before. Now I'm not as dangerous. Thanks TB.
I found out that in general, folks here are really helpful and I'm glad I signed up two years ago.
