I broke my pot shaft

Hi, newb, broke the shaft on the other side of this pot, I know enough to take the pickguard off and do basic soldering but searched online and don't know what to buy to replace this guy (it's on a 98/99 MIM P bass)…

Can anyone point me to a replacement? That tan thing soldered on to the pot is impossible to find a match for online…

The tan thing is a tone capacitor. Heat the solder up and pull it off so you can install it on a new pot. Take pictures so you know how to put it on the new pot.

You want a 250k Audio taper pot. Any decent guitar store should have them in stock. They are not hard to find.

I think that's an excellent idea, I'm looking at the obsidian prewired harness for MIM p bass and when looking at other p bass diagrams they are all different from mine, all the diagrams I am seeing has the ground to bridge coming from the tone pot, or sometimes even from the volume pot but on mine (of course) the ground to bridge is coming from the jack, is something wrong here with my wiring? Why is mine so different? Thanks

I think if anything the Obsidian harness is different. I think the ground comes from the jack on yours so that it is easier to take the pickguard off while wired up. There are some less expensive options for harnesses that are similar to what you have now.

I personally don't love the solderless hookups.

Orange drop caps are nice, I use them. The black things are probably shrink tube to insulate bare wires.

Edit: here is the basic P Bass circuit that I use, albeit with a 0.022 cap and a 'vintage' tone pot. It should give you the basic idea of what goes where. The red wire on the left is from the pickup and the red wire on the right goes to the tip of the output jack.

Electronically both versions are the same. Just so all grounds get to the sleeve connection on the output jack.
