I CANT GET IN A GOOD BAND!!

You know this start your own band stuff is starting to tick me off.

A lot of us are bass players, not band leaders or band starters. That is a completely different skill set.

I am sure there are some of us that are good at it and can do both. Some of us can't and don't want to start a band.

I mean, I would love to, put all the material together, organize find the right cats to play with. Thing is, I know I can't do that kind of stuff.

You don't have to be the bandleader to start a band. Find a drummer and/or guitar player and just jam for a while. If you can't write maybe the other guy can and if you're forced to write then maybe you'll find that with a little practice you're good at it.

All I'm saying is don't always look to join a band missing a bass player... Building one from the ground up can be awesome if you hold out for the right people.

Blue, do most bands where you play have to provide their own PA?

I’m asking, because like you, I’m no “band leader”, and wouldn’t even be interested in doing the business end, promoting, booking gigs, ect.

All I have is a bunch of PA equipment and a trailer (my thing was sound), and a cool jam/rehearsal space, and these friggin musicians keep sucking me to the stage because the just need that dang PA.

My guitar player happens to be very experienced in the business end, he takes care of all that, likes being the “Band Leader”, and I’m perfectly happy with that.

But at the same time, I have some security and some “say” should I feel I need it.

I don’t know what expendable income you have, and can’t guarantee it would work for ya, but it seems to be one way of having the best of both worlds.

I am glad you broached this issue because it has been on my mind for several reasons.

Most clubs I have played had respectable sound and lights, we lucked out a few times where the owner paid and brought in really top notch completley automated computer based sound.

I use to do home recording and sound has always been intersting to me.

I would really like to invest in outboard sound gear. But I don't know where to start. I don't thimk I want to go "speaker on a stick" route.

I have a feeling that a lions share of the investment should go to high end mics for the drums.
