Invariably, internet forums will have "regular" posters who believe they drive the vitality of the forum, and make it interesting. They have, indeed made it interesting. For themselves. Without their posts, the forum would be less interesting. To that small group of posters. For everyone else, the forum will just sort of go on. Some days it might have millions of posts, to the point where threads are on page three in a few hours. Other days, not so much.
This is a huge, vital forum, with pro players, sound people, experts and novices posting about diverse topics related to playing bass guitar, playing music, and building and maintaining equipment. I found it when I did a google search, in order to answer a question I had about my instrument. I found it again when I did other google searches, and I realized that this was where you go when you need to find information.
Anyone who thinks they themselves are vital to a forum that has banned top-level pro players is deluding themselves. This forum is a tool, and posting here is a privilege.
I can be as cranky, argumentative, and just plain mean as the next guy. But I entered a contract when I joined this forum not to bring any of that here.
It is up to me to ensure I do not get banned, and if I ever do, it is my fault, and mine alone.
This forum will go on without me, and it won't miss a beat.

I learned how to defret my bass from luthier's corner.

I learned 3 finger technique after an accident I had from Technique forum, if I didn't I wouldn't be able to play with only 2 fingers as it was too much work.

But you are posting in TBOT, it's always been like this. This is like a pub. We get to gether here after gigs, hard day at our works and blow off steam.

Also, if one gets banned it isn't entirely their fault. Mods are people like you and me, they have good days and bad days too. Some years ago I was once banned on a bad day of one mod, it was lifted later on. To err is human, and the stuff they have to work with can be overwhelming. :)

Yeah. And now a small group of posters in TBOT have been replaced by another small group of posters who make it interesting.....for themselves. Especially when they can't seem to stop talking about the other small group of posters.

The problem is that many people are gone, who, whatever you thought of their posts, wrote some interesting and funny !@#$. If you take the air out of a balloon, even hot air, and it is going to look deflated.

At first I was all on board with the house cleaning, then I thought it was way too heavy handed.
Then I thought the people who reported various issues to the moderators were a bunch of whiners.
Then I came full circle and realized I don't have the full picture, that many things happened behind the scenes that I am unaware of, so I have to leave it in the hands of those who administrate this website and trust that they made the right decisions.
If at any time I feel like they didn't, I am free to stop posting and visiting www.talkbass.com.
I don't see that last comment happening, so onward and upward we go.

It's cool if you don't want to talk about it.

But next time if you don't want to talk about something / someone, just don't talk behind their back first.

This is not cool. That is the reason I started talking about it.
