u ever hear the saying; if you dont have anything nice to say, dont say
anything? i think its in poor taste to start a thread like this. he has forgot
more than you probably know!

actually out of all the "bass gods" that get worshiped around here he's one of the few I can stand. I def get where you're coming from OP

I do love the insinuation that you HAVE to love him, because he's probably more technically proficient then you. LOL. I'm going to start swinging that one about in any thread disparaging metal music or metal bassists.

I agree with Dug2, why make a thread about it. And what's worse, it's not the only thread of its kind on here about Victor.

All that being said, it did take me awhile to get into Wooten, I think because for me bass is about subtle tasteful playing and most peoples introduction to Wooten is probably going to youtube and searching for "Victor Wooten bass solo".
His best work in my opinion is with Bella Fleck and the Flecktones, those CD's aren't just "bass albums". I don't care if its guitar wankery or bass wankery I'm not interested. It could be Steve Vai, Victor Wooten, or anybody, if the song isn't why you are playing the audience isn't going to care.

Like his playing or not, (I love the guy) Victor had been one of the preeminent ambassadors of bass in the last 30 years. He does a lot for the bass community, and like it or not, he's one of the greatest musicians on the planet. You don't have to like everything he's done, but you have to give the man props for promoting bass awareness.

There are bass players, guitarist, keyboardist, drummers, etc. that have acheived almost legendary status in the music world that I am not particulary fond of. However, I usually just ignore or don't talk much about them.

I am uncertain of the objectives of a thread that begins like this one.
