Double Bass I.E.M problems.....

There wasn't a live sound category for DB, so I'm hoping this is the right area for this! I'm using a full circle, into a platinum pro EQ, into a "mixer", or I should say laptop. My band wants to go all in ears, so no onstage amplification. It's all of their existing equipment, I just had to buy my own pair of buds. I splurged and bought a pair of Westones. Don't remember the model, but they are at least 4 drivers, maybe more. It's going into a CAD audio wireless system. Well, it sounds awful! Vocals sound great, guitars sound good. But the bass....It sounds kind of like that awful Dolby NR on old cassette decks. Quiet, and then just before the note, some hiss-like noise, and then the real awful sounding bass note, and then quiet. No bottom, almost all finger noise. Any suggestions?

Unfortunately IME are hearing what the Full Circle really sounds like. The Realist isn’t any better in this application. I do remember that an Avalon U5 really helps the Realist. If you put most piezoelectric pickups “under the microscope they don’t sound all that great. I’m kind of surprised the Platinum Pro doesn’t
help. My first guess is you need an impedance buffer between the CAD and the pickup, but in normal circumstances the Platinum Pro would handle that. Are you using the Fishman Pre into the CAD?

The platinum pro into the mixer/laptop. Then one of the aux sends into the CAD. Sorry, I’m old school, I don’t know the terminology for the new fangled, computerized live gear stuff! Fishman into the rack with all the mic inputs, then an out into the CAD with my monitor mix

Try to connect the IEM without the wireless connection into the aux out (you might need a headphone amplifier) or to a headphone out of the audio interface. That is for checking if the wireless connection does the strange things (I assume that’s the culprit).

Record your bass to a field recorder or a portable DAT, take them to a big music store with your IEMs and check some wireless headphone transmission devices.

You would go from you platimum pro into this (mic in) then from the mic thru into the desk to be sent to foh.

Then take your aux send but with no bass as your bass is in the mic input. The aux send contains the rest of the band and goes into the monitor input.

You can then blend your bass signal straight from the plat pro (mic input) with the rest of your band (monitor input) without your bass signal going to the desk and then back to you. Should be a cleaner signal to monitor.

I run IEMs and love it. I run a realist via sansamp paradriver into the desk. From the desk (with a whole band mix) into a behringer p2 headphone amp into my kz zsn pros. This set up runs flawlessly.

Thanks for all the ideas! First step is to try to hook my in ears directly to the aux send. I've also wondered if I'm under driving the platinum pro maybe, and that hiss is the compressor trying to boost up the signal?
