I Enjoyed a Pete Wentz Bass Line!

Well, my cover band decided to cover the Fall Out Boy song "Sugar We're Going Down". I literally just learned it in 30 minutes and I have to say that despite how simple this is, it's actually fun to play! I get to use my 5th string and hit that low D note! Got to love that 5th string!:bassist::rolleyes:

I already have head-bangning moves with my bass swirling about with my head! I am going to get the guitar players invovled too! Hopefully the crowds will eat this one up!

I don't understand all of the Pete Wentz bashing. Nor do I understand why I jumped into it myself. I will say this though, he did marry Ashlee Simpson - the world's worst singer (do we remember the singing flub on SNL??). So, SUPPOSED worst bass player in the world marries the worst singer in the world - doesn't something sound just perfect with that comment?:D;)
It almost seems like the world is "right" with that.

So people, stop bashing Pete Wentz! He is happy in life and if your cover band wants to play some Fall Out Boy, the bass line will be pretty easy!

Just making fun of having my 5th string and the fact of having it is not too important. Handy, yes, important, no. Most of the songs my band plays are easily done on 4 strings without the Low B.

Here is why Pete and his band mates get bashed: because they are a mediocre band that plays mediocre music but makes insane amount of cash. Yes "Sugar" is a catchy song, but so is "Hit Me Baby One More Time" and "I Want It That Way." Pure and simple, its pop music its going to be hated.

Your half right...Patrick writes the most of music ((not unusual for one or two guys to be the primary writers)), but pete DOES record his own stuff...Not that that is any great amazing feat considering the nature of his basslines, but then again, the same could be said about most bass players.

In the spirit of sticking to the topic at hand, I agree that the bassline to the song is catchy. Try not to pay attention to the wentz bashers. While he is definitely not amazing, most haters draw their conclusions from biased opinions that they read right here on talkbass without doing any investigation on their own...

If you guys are gonna bash wentz, or any other bass player for that matter, try to make it something smart, thought out, and constructive. Look into it before you speak, otherwise you look like a fool in the eyes of those more educated on the subject than you.

If a FOB bass line "written" by Pete Wentz took you 30 minutes to learn then that may explain why you don't understand the Pete bashing and you think it is fun to play. He sits on the root of whatever the guitar is playing, I would not even call it a bass line. He is taking up low frequencies, and doing a sub-par job even doing that. But he is emo so it doesn't matter if he sucks, as long as his jeans are tight and his hair is covering one eye.

This one time, there was this band, and they did this thing, and I copied it and made it better, and in my head I knew it was cool, and I did it more and got the rest of the band involved, then my head exploded!
