I Finally did it!

I'm a new man.
Today I traded in my drums and all things drums.
The music store got a great deal!

I now have a bass amp I can work with.
Its a Roland DB500.

I'm happy with it but would appreciate any help on settings.
I have a Fender Jazz MIM.

Its time to update my profile. Yahoo.... no more practicing with head phones. A real tone.... avec mwah.

Congrats.

I can't help you on settings, but a lot of that is rather universal anyway - don't boost bass too far when playing louder because it can make speakers fart and sucks up a lot of power, don't cut midrange frequencies too much if you are having trouble being heard - in fact you may want to boost some at times for more detail and articulation, that'll help you "cut through".

If the manual for that unit is like the newer models there should be some settings in ther that'll get you started in finding your own preferences.

I've been exploring my new amps' capabilities for most of the day.
Thanks for the tips.

One big advantage of having a good amp is your instrument inherits more value too. By this I mean with the new amp I've gained a better understanding of the controls on my bass. They are more distinctive with this amp. Little adjustments in tone or pickup volume make a difference now. With the cheap RMS amp these distinctions were lost.

I really like the compressor in the DB500 too. Its subtle and effective.

With time I'll get a better feel for the COSM types and useful settings with these shapes.
