I finally tuned my Mustang to BEAD

I used Dunlop 45 - 125 medium scale flats, and left off the high string. And I don't like them. Not because they sound bad or they're floppy. Because they're not as smooth and polished as the LaBella LTFs I use for standard tuning. I just don't like how they feel. They sound good tho.

So I'm doing what I probably should have done in the first place. I ordered a set of LaBella RX 45 - 130 nickel rounds. Also along for the ride are a set of 60-115 Black Tapes (both medium scale, of course). That way if I absolutely hate the rounds, which is likely, I can put it back into standard and have a slightly different feel than my other two basses.

These strings arrived yesterday. I put the rounds on and they immediately feel better than the Dunlops, even though they're rounds. It's the high polish. These feel like a "proper" set of strings where the Dunlops felt like they were made as an afterthought. We'll see how long they stay on before I decide I hate rounds again.

So I've been playing this bass for a couple of weeks now and yeah, it's the right sound and feel. Today, I put Dunlop 45-105 rounds on my Reverend Watt and the basses sound very close, just in different ranges. My Guild Starfire still has LTFs. I still think the Guild sounds "more like me", but there's an undeniable presence the other two have with rounds.

I’ve always wondered if BEAD was feasible on a mustang. Is yours strung through the body?

I have a Nash mustang and this sounds interesting to me…

Yes. I have the Squier CV which is thru body. I’m also open to other string sets if you find ones with the correct speaking length. The LaBellas are cool, but I’d also like to see what else is out there.
