I forgot I even had it!

So tonight I get a call from a buddy whom I've was teaching to play bass last winter. I had not seen him since the beginning of the summer because he bought a cottage and a boat and basically disappeared for a few months.
So he tells me he wants to get back to learning the bass now that he has put the boat away and the he says: "BTW have you been playing my bass? How do you like it?"
I'm like: "What bass?"
He says: "You know, the new bass I bought that I brought down the last time we got together to jam at Luc's place. I asked at the end of the night if you wanted to take it home to play around with it and you said you would love to."
Honest to God I had absolutely no recollection of that conversation or bringing a bass home. So as we are talking I walk down to the basement to my music room, look around, and there leaning up against a keyboard I never use is a Fender case. I open it up and inside is the bass in the photo below... a beautiful black Fender Starcaster. Been playing it all night. Just last week we had an large outdoor acoustic gig at which I used an electric. If I had any inkling this bass was in my music room it would have been used at that gig.

It is the God of Thunder with both pickups on. My buddy got it used at a pawn shop but it is absolutely like new.

It's definitely a bit heavy. It really needs tapes or flats but I was absolutely stunned at how thunderous it sounds with the stock strings... at least I presume they are still the stock strings.

They look like regular rounds to me. He purchased it 5 months ago so the time frame is not that far off. Either way it is a beautiful bass.... not the bass for me, but for the right person I could see this being a dream bass.

Some of my friends' basements are sick. I have one friend who has one of the largest collections of original vintage Fender tube amps in the world, including THE serial No. 1 '57 Bassman combo. When you walk into his music room you'd swear you hear angels singing.

Love my Vintage Cherry Starcaster! Tuned BEAD it is, indeed, the God of Thunder!
