With shipping, this was cheaper to get the stuff to make four than it was to buy even one!

You might be getting what you pay for in this case.

I've got one cheapo SpeakOn and my Markbass cabinet doesn't like it.

It even caused me to think I had a faulty amp, when it was just the SpeakOn not being connected.

Possibly. Though, if that's the case I'll just replace them with Neutrick. It will still be cheaper in the long run. Pretty sure that wire is a decent quality for this use. I'll report back when it gets in.

One possible issue with some non-genuine Neutrik cable connectors is that the contact assembly comes loose inside and destroys the mating connector. A much more serious and expensive issue.

Ouch. Now that makes me a little more nervous. I'll call the company tomorrow and ask about that.

IMHO, they're just going to tell you what you want to hear. No one is going to admit that their product is faulty.

Nothing wrong with making your own cables. Not only does it save you money, but you can then repair, if need be, later on.
I think everybody recommends using quality parts though, or you're just inviting problems.

This thread has actually convinced me to replace that knock-off SpeakOn on my one speaker cable with a real Neutrik.

As in all things, the guenuine article always costs more. In my mind they are worth every penny. I only use Neutrik branded connectors.

Not much more than high quality 1/4" TS plugs and no soldering skills required. Building your own cables is SO much cheaper and too darn easy to pay the retail price on speakon cables.

I'm kind of for & against the Neutrik 1/4" plugs. Some other brands have a hole drilled in the shielding side of the connector, so it's easier to solder to. I guess you could drill your own on the Neutrik.

The Amphenol might be the best 1/4".

I'm already using mostly Neutrik for SpeakOns though, and they just seem to dominate the market.

I bought G&H right angle and straight in the standard and "bigfoot" over a decade ago and they have held up much better to "bigfoot" lead singers than Switchcraft or Amp.

I read somewhere on a very old thread that this can be found at a hardware store for pennies/foot, too.
