I found some good prices for speakon connectors

some extreme examples were referenced here... but I agree that high current speaker connectors are a place where you should not skimp on a few bucks per cable. Neutrik is not that expensive ime. In the next year I intend on changing out the 1/4" jack dishes in my 3 wedge monitors so I will use only Speakon connectors in my PA. Bass rig is already Speakon equipt.

I'll add my _amen_* to the choir. I've used both the knockoffs and genuine Neutriks to make speakon cables. The extra couple bucks the genuine connectors cost are def worth it, in reliability.

I just thought it was a bit nuts to pay $50-60 for two three-foot lengths of cable from Guitar Center. They may guarantee their cables too, but the company probably won't be around much longer.

I think that's what we've been lobbying against, buying cheap cables made with knock-off parts & knock-off connectors in general.
I got my first SpeakON to 1/4" cable off of Amazon or eBay & that just happens (what a coincidence) to be the faulty SpeakON that I have.
I'm going to throw that connector deep in a dumpster next week, after I've reassembled that cable with a Neutrik.

I've been buying my cable making supplies from Redco for years. I've done both the standard Mogami and Canare instrument cable from them and I've also used their generic Redco brand without problems. I've also bought both Canare & Redco speaker cable and mic cable. For ends I buy piles of the Neutrik Speakon as well as Neutrik and Switchcraft 1/4", and XLR ends.

They discount at bulk, so I tend to buy up a tier or two then keep it on hand as I go.

I buy two and three conductor cable from Home Depot. I wipe it with acetone to remove the white lettering from the rubber jacket.

I'll probably leave the white lettering. I think it says something about the 300 volt rating.
I'd like to color them orange, but it's probably not worth the hassle.

eBay is full of cheap crap cables, fakes, counterfeits etc. unless you REALLY know what you are doing, you can get totally hosed by buying something that you think is something else.

I saw my first cable made with copper clad aluminum wire strands. Plenty of jacket made the cable look ok from the outside. Terrible quality connectors as well. The only good thing about them was the price... But in this case the customer didn't even get what they paid for!

Hmm, I wonder what a cabinet sounds like being powered by aluminum wires.

Aluminum tends to fracture and then disintegrate, not good in a vibration prone environment.

I buy surplus PTFE wire from Steve at Apex Jr.. Very good price on quality shielded wire. Some good other finds there from time to time.

PTFE is definitely superior to other plastics.

So I called the company, and it went to voice mail. I left a message that I want to cancel the order and to call me as soon as possible. I got an email a half hour later from PayPal confirming the cancellation. They never returned my call. Just an interesting way to handle it.

Oh man, I hate lack of communication, but at least they did the cancellation.
I figured you would get an eMail several hours later that the order had shipped.
That's how stuff goes with me!
