I 'freeze' on stage....stagefright

I just assume the jitters are normal. I get the jitters before anything that requires a lot of concentrated performance, whether it is riding on the racetrack or playing in front of people. It is something you can learn to embrace and enjoy. The other thing I do is make a joke of it. Count mistakes. First to 100 in a show WINS!

Another thing to keep in mind - people think it's really cool that you are up there doing it. They really do. They like you for being there, they want you to succeed, and they admire you for doing something you love in front of people. My little cover band is starting to get known a bit better around here - and I've had so many people tell me how cool it is that I play in a band - it's good to keep that stuff in mind....

There are lots of good suggestions here. However, if the stage fright is a real issue that you can't get past on your own, and you really want to perform live, you might consider getting a professional consultation on the anxiety you are experiencing. It's possible this person could help you get to the root of the problem, and then give you the tools to combat it.

Hi.

Nice Zombie thread as stealth marketing...

Very true, but he did search... :).

And if he hadn't dug this FA gem out of the shallow grave it probably belongs in, I hadn't remembered this brilliant joke kesslari posted all those years ago:

Oh, skip the Sake at church - bad results. See below:

A new priest at his first mass was so nervous he could hardly speak. After mass, he asked the monsignor how he had done. The monsignor replied, "When I am worried about getting nervous on the pulpit, I put a glass of vodka next to the water glass. If I start to get nervous, I take a sip." So the next Sunday, he took the monsignor's advice.

At the beginning of the sermon, he got nervous and took a drink. He proceeds to talk up a storm. Upon return to his office after mass, he found the following note on his door:

1. Sip the vodka, don't gulp.
2. There are 10 commandments, not 12.
3. There were 12 disciples, not 10.
4. Jesus was consectrated, not constipated.
5. Jacob wagered his donkey. He did not "bet his ass".
6. We do not refer to Jesus Christ as 'the late great J.C".
7. The Father, Son, and Holy Ghost are not referred to as "Daddy, Junior, and Spook".
8. David slew Goliath. He did not "kick the ****" out of him.
9. When David was hit by a rock and knocked off his donkey, don't say he was stoned off his ass.
10. We do not refer to the cross as the Big T!
11. When Jesus broke the bread at the last supper, he said, "Take this and eat it, for it is my body", he did not say, "Eat me."
12. The Virgin Mary is not referred to as "Mary with the Cherry."
13. The recommended grace before a meal is not: "Rub-A-dub-dub, thanks for the grub, yeah God."
14. Next Sunday, there will be a taffy-pulling at St. Peter's, not a peter-pulling at St. Taffy's.

Sam

She/they seem fairly infamous but I can never really find out why. :eyebrow: Seems like she/they started a few silly threads... but I've seen worse. :ninja:

I think the main reason is the claimed diversity of interests and skills combined with the manifest denseness and ineptitude that singles her/him/it out.

And she threw up on her precious Shergold. HOF material right there.:D

I have been playing for 35 years and am not very animated on stage. I have had people tell me that I sometimes look like I am not enjoying myself. I have gotten better at it but even though I am confident in my ability, I am still not comfortable on stage. I think that the ability to be comfortable moving around on stage comes naturally to some people and not so naturally to others. If you are uncomfortable and try to force yourself to move around, the audience will sense it. A few years ago, I saw a very famous band perform. The lead singer ran out on stage, crouched down and started pointing at the audience. He looked so uncomfortable and it seemed so forced that I started laughing.

Don't force it. DO what comes naturally. John Entwistle is a good example of someone who rarely if ever moved and he did just fine.

What Rune Bivrin said.

Just go to "all threads started" on FA's profile page, and start reading them chronologically from the day she/he joined TB.

Sure, some of the topics and the replies are sort of "You had to be there THEN", but a lot can absorbed even years later.

To me she/he is kind of that "Chocolate Rain" or Tron guy, or at TB the "one who's name shall not be spoken", an entertainment on internet.
Grim entertainment at times, but entertainment none the less.

What's sad IMO, is that nearly all the young internet "celebrities" have exposed themselves to more people than they probably originally intended, and in a totally different light than they originally intended.
