So I recently started setting my den studio back up with my keys and recording gear and guitar synths and stuff. Giving myself little "now how would I wire that up?" projects, just as practice to get back into it (and to get ready for my retirement), I came up with one of the dumbest question I think I've ever asked myself - that is, "What would a Bösendorfer Grand Piano sound like through a Peter Frampton (or George Benson) - style talkbox? I mean, that's a little strange to even think of. Why? I dunno.

But here it is:


(Yeah, of course, any tonal qualities of the original piano get mashed through the cheapo EHX talkbox driver and then through my mouth, you couldn't hear those Bösendorfer nuances if you tried. Still, there it is. It had to be done!) hehe

I can only suggest you and Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish...or maybe St. Vincent get together and do a duet.

Interestingly, while I was aware of Frampton's use of a talkbox, I had no idea George Benson had tried it...Indeed my first thought on hearing the word talkbox is Joe Walsh and his Rocky Mountain Way

I like to prep my wife's piano somtimes. Thx for answering that question. Not that I had that question but it's always nice hearing other peolpe's piano tinkering. Last effect array used in a concerto was a distortion into a delay triggered by a momentary switch sending brutal waves through a sequential speaker array.

Edit: got a somewhat similar but to my mind more useable sound using a ringmod.

Iron Butterfly, with Kustom’s “The Bag” was the first rock band I ever saw using anything like that…

Jeff Beck used one starting in the early 70’s(and it’s all over the Blow By Blow album).
But the Small Faces’ Ian McLagen ran an acoustic piano through a wah wah in ‘68…
