So just to show my lowly starter slap skills, I'll quote some posts from the amateur recordings thread and ask for advice. Am I on the right track? What's a good slap tone? These are all on my home built Washburn XB928 project...

Now, before I go any further, note that I cannot slap to save my life. I'm trying anyway. Controls set to "single coils" position, in parallel in phase, mids scooped, lows and highs boosted. Envelope phaser and chorus on in a desperate attempt to be funky,. An embarrassing lack of technique...

Further slap practice today, been working at it, I think I'm getting better - but what you you think?



Edit: recorded into Zoom G5n (Cry autofilter, FD2x10 cab sim, Room reverb) -> Audacity, bass set to "inner single coils in parallel in phasse" with highs and lows maxed and mids scooped. So is that a good slap tone?

This morning's effort - same riff and setup, bass is in "all series" mode.

I don't know what happened, last time I tried months ago, I still couldn't get it, but this time, it just seems to work. No clue what changed.
