A 24-fret axe with a full EMG suite is indeed a far different proposition than a Fender. Since this is your first, I'd caution against too much EQ: The onboard EQ is more than some bass heads offer, so you want to be careful about big boost or cut on the bass, then dialing in big boosts or cuts on the head to try and reel it back in. Most will run most of the EQ one or the other, with small tweaks at the other end.

And if you take it to your trusted guitar tech for setup, be sure and take a long with a new set of your preferred strings.

Thanks man, great advice to! Gonna test it out more this weekend when I have time and do what you said with the built in eq and my amp eq. You’re right, the amount off bass this puts out was distorting even the 410 subway. Had to dial the bass or the amp back immediately.

Also had to disengage the -10db button on the amp because the signal going in was so hot. I had heard about this but never experienced it since this is my first active eq bass. So far so good. Very excited!

Ummm…THE sound I’ve been yearning for! VERY clear and articulate. Handles and produces lows like a boss. That’s with my Fender jazz and now the new Ibanez bass I plugged in last night. Great mids and just very well built. Just seems like a very primo brand of cabinet. Thing just shakes the room when turned up.

I mean, the amp has a ton to do with it too. Currently got the GK MB-500. But I’ve been eyeing the Mesa D-800+.

It’s weird, not many guys that post here have a 410. Had a hard time finding people that own the Mesa 410 or even played through one. Did have one guy post in another thread I started and was like. Get it! You’ll love it! He was right.

I was talking about adding a 115 too but seemed like a controversial posting….:laugh:

My wife knows nothing about playing any instruments. But within a few minutes of plugging into it Saturday when I got it, she was like, damn, that sounds really good. I can tell a difference between that and your other one (which is a GK 212 neo IV combined with my SWR 115.) said it sounded clearer and deeper.

This is neck thru, active and more aggressive than the more ‘civilized’ Sound Gear series as per the ‘X’ designation.

Last time I was messing around with my Fender bass I screwed it all up, trying to adjust the saddles and the truss rod, etc. Guy does it at a very reasonable rate.

I’m also wondering if some old guy owned this that I bought it from and he just played it on Sundays?:laugh: The thing is immaculate. Even the strings look and sound brand new. Pretty stoked to have gotten this and found it for such a great deal. Definitely cool to have something different in the arsenal.

Just bought the Mesa subway 410 on Saturday. Coupled with his bass, I’m really loving things. Might actually hold onto the GK MB500 amp a little longer than anticipated. Maybe play this for a little bit and see how I end up liking it instead of jumping and buying the Mesa D 800+.

Well, OK, it's got an 1.5" nut width. However. . .

A 24-fret neck through with no heel block for the screws is a vastly different experience if you're playing up the neck, with the octave and next few frets completely unobstructed. Not like a 20-odd fret Fender with that heel. It's just easier to play, and a neckthrough can pass frequencies differently than a two piece body and neck.

The soap bars and tone network is essentially silent. No more running two single coils wide open to go quiet. These are wider aperture pickups that hear a wider length of string. A fader is different than two volumes. Three band tone control on board. With this set up, you can explore different blends more easily, and there's no noise or output penalties in soloing either pickup.

It's a different style of bass with different capabilities. For some, a Jazz is fine, a classic of the first order. But this is simply a different beast which will suit some and not be for others. Which is as it should be.

Beautiful bass. Spend a few bucks on tools and a little time on youtube to learn to do your own setups. I have rarely been happy with "pro" setups.
