I've never been loyal to one string brand or type, till I found these, and now idk what they are. A few years ago I put flats on a bass and rip G-string. What I know is that there's purple silk at both ends and gold circles at the bridge. They were likely on the affordable side of things. Any ideas on what this was?

Sounds to me like you're talking about the Ernie Ball Cobalt Flats (aka Slinky Flatwound). Can you post pics so we can confirm?
