While some lambics aren't sweet the Linderman's shown is very sweet, sort of like an alcoholic soda pop. They make several fruits...raspberry, peach, and cherry are the most popular. I think they're probably in the range of pepsi as far as sweet goes, but not very beery (which in this case is a good thing!).

You might also explore the world of cider. Most of the decent bars around here have one or two types on tap. Some can be 'dry' but most are sweet, light and refreshing.

I don't think most people are quite prepared for a plain lambic. The Brettanomyces often gives that "horse sweat" characteristic. With fruit it balances amazingly well. But on its own it is an acquired taste for many though I dug lambics from my first sip.

I didn't go to the monastery I got it in Brussels. The name of the place? I won't share (cause it's actually illegal for them to sell) Plus half of the adventure is finding it, it's definitely a glorious quest! Ask around and people will tell you eventually.

To the OP:You don't hate beer,you're just not used to how it tastes.Men have 2 cromosomes,
1:Hair.
2:Beer.

Get used to it.

I do love beer. As I've gotten older (37) I realize that if I have more than a few I feel like utter crap the next day. So I tend to go for more intense and flavorful beers knowing that I won't be drinking a whole bunch of them. Although now that summer is here I don't mind a yellow beer now & then. Recent & all-time favorites:

  • New Belgium La Folie
  • Youngs Double Chocolate Stout (yummmmmmm)
  • New Belgium Mothership Wheat
  • Paulaner Salvator
  • And of course, Guinness

UV light oxidizes the hop compounds (alpha acids) which results in the formation of a few things, Furfuryl mercaptan among them. Dark bottles slow, but don't stop this process - it's a function of age - chiefly how long the bottles sit under fluorescent lights at the store before someone buys them. If the beer is fresh, clear bottles aren't a problem as long as they don't sit in your fridge forever.

If you want intense and flavorful, you should try some barley wines. Rogue's Old Crustacean, Sierra Nevada's Bigfoot and Anchor's Foghorn are all ones I really dig. Old ales are similarly good - higher alcohol content, a ton of flavor. I like Theakston's Old Peculiar and North Coast's Old Stock Ale.
