I hate the Fender fanboys...

Before I continue, I must say that I LOVE Fender and they are my guitar of choice.

BUT:

I hate those people who think Fender is the best and everyone else's guitars suck. I was talking about how I recently purchased a new Squier VM Modified Jazz bass (which was not cheap by any means) and this guy goes off rambling about how Squiers aren't a real guitar and how Squiers are only for beginners and they aren't good guitars. He went on about how you're only a real guitarist if you have the real deal Fenders, such as the MIM or American Standard.

It really sucks when people say this, even when you don't think the same way. Not all of us can afford the 1.5k guitar that mommy and daddy bought for their kid. Anyone have any thoughts on this/words of encouragement?

I know, right? And then he started saying how his dad (who is a complete idiot outside of the music world) said that changing pickups is only for the "tone freaks" and are losers and don't understand the real "art" of playing guitar. I was like.... "yeah, whatever man".

I'm a Fender fan, and I only WISH that there were such good, inexpensive basses as the Squier Series when I was starting out.

I own (or have owned in the past) Fender basses from EVERY decade, 1950's through 2000-teens.
My last bass purchase was a Squier SS Jaguar.

I love fender only because I love fender. They ARE NOT the best because I've played many guitars that aren't fenders and they look, play and sound great... I just don't like them for some reason. I always go back to the precision or jazz. Don't know why, I just do. I just know that Dean and Danelctro suck

I agree with what you're saying. Fenders have always worked for me and that's what I buy, but by no means do I think they are the only good basses made.
I currently own 4 Fender basses, including a Squier, and each one has it's own good points and bad points.

1975 P-Bass (my first bass...retired from gigs and will be handed down to my son)
2011 FCS Custom Classic Special Jazz V (used on special occasions only)
2012 Squier Vintage Modified V (backup gigging bass)
2012 American Standard Precision V (main gigging bass)

People who wail on Squier are up there with people who rag on Behringer but have never touched anything made by Behringer.

Now take that one step further where you own a Harley and (A) aren't a woman [Sportster] or (B) a metric rider [air cooled, Porsche designed VRod] AND you get ragged on, just as earnestly, by Harley big twin air cooled riders. People actually slag on other bass players because of their instrument? Pshaw....freaking pikers.

Yup.

I did a gig 2 or 3 weeks ago with a Fodera but also used a Squier VM Fretless Jazz. The Fodera was more than 20x the cost of the Squier.

The Squier is a good instrument and definitely a pro-quality bass. I would love to have someone come up to me and tell me that bass sucks.

P.s. A friend bought a Sportster 883 and we ragged on him so bad that he had to return it within 2 months. he went large though.... Traded it in for a crazy done up decker.
