I hate the terms "back" and "front" pickup.

I get what you’re saying. It’s just that to me concert bass drums and a kick drum are very different instruments because they are played so differently requiring a pretty different technique. It’s even more drastic of a difference than bass guitar and upright to me. I can play a bass drum. I don’t have the foot coordination to play kick drum very well.

Out of curiosity, I went to the websites of several well known drum makers and they all call that big drum sitting on the floor, a bass drum. What's up with that?

First. World. Problems.

Yes, but do you prefer neck, middle or bridge seats? ;)

I'm not sure I get this. I know you're trying to be funny. Pretty much every country has an airport now, so this could happen to anyone. Doesn't happen when driving, riding a bus, or walking because you always have a point of reference. I was talking about how it's weird for me to not know where cardinal directions are, and you turned it into a silly discussion on flying. I rarely fly. Thanks for making me sound like a rich jerk though. Now if I can just have the money to go along with that allegation.

and for reference, I've either not had a choice on seats, or I choose the cheapest seat available.

notice how he quoted you and replied to you after saying first world problems? thats because he was making a quip on the thread itself, not a personal comment on you, then he proceeded to reply to your comment. frankly, and I don't mean to be rude, but I don't think anyone here cares about how often you fly or your socio-economic status enough to comment on it.

Perhaps I read it wrong. @Dynacord I apologize if I did misread it. I probably need more coffee.

@Jason Bonilla why does my possible misunderstanding necessitate you chiming in with a condescending retort? What do you gain by your statement? Is winning an online argument a lifetime achievement for you? And why do people say "I dont mean to be rude" when they clearly do?

The proceeding comments are rhetorical, and not meant as an opening for further discussion. I'm done with this thread.

hey I just felt he getting defensive for no good reason :cautious:. I guess I could have worded it differently. now I've been made out to be the villain of this story, but as a result of my own vilification peace was made between both other parties, so mission success with a side of failure. such is life. And no, its not a life time achievement, this wasn't even an argument, but I'm bored at work with NOTHING to do so I'm just tryna keep myself busy and sane.

^ Uh, this. Exactly this.

Refer to post #10:

Per Matt, we should be calling the P on the Attitude the "bridge pickup". Personally...nah: not gunna.
worrying about terminology for the two pickups on one of the most obscure production bass guitars ever and instead of just calling one The P and the other The MB, deciding to call one of them the back/rear despite none of the pickups being on the back or the rear of the bass is what makes you such a wonderous person. Keep it up!

I hope you keep posting look at what I wrote on #11. It’s totally not weird to assume that people disagreeing with your stance simply skipped over your post.

FWIW, we disagree.

Sorry, easy mix up. My "first world problems" was about the thread topic and was in no way directed at you. The seat thing was just a joke - as it makes as little sense as the thread overall! (the names, not need for orientation.) I hoped it was clear it was a joke with the winking emoji but that can be hit or miss. Anyway, apologies - no offense intended.

Every time I watch a video or read a discussion about pickups that use front and back, I get very irritated. I have to keep watching till they either point to it or reference it by the control knobs. Why do I have to be a detective to understand which they mean?
C'mon! There is a neck, middle, and bridge for position reference.

There. Whew!
Yeah seems remedial. Like me Hate going to That dr! Bass, Treble; Neck, Bridge! Cant trust reviewers that dont know proper Names of things!

Personally I am inclined to use terminology that reflects the different tonal characteristics of the two pickups. For example, we could call them Ren and Stimpy.

"I'm not getting a good volume balance. Should I raise my Ren, or lower my Stimpy?"
May as well. It makes as much sense as front and back.

After all these posts, I'm still not clear which are the front and back pickups, and why they are referred to in that manner.

Actually, its the bass and treble pick up. I get irritated when youngsters modify established language, so there.....

The one that annoys me is people calling a kick drum a bass drum. Maybe because I was a band geek in high school and bass drums are played with your hands and a kick drum is played with your feet. But I don’t completely flip out about it or anything. It’s more so just goofy to me. It’s like these days there are 9 string guitars that range wise go lower than a standard tuned 4 string bass. I don’t call it a bass just because it goes into that range.

It actually is, the bass drum. Kick drum is Johnnie come lately slang.

The reason you are not clear is that it makes no sense, you do.
The pickup closest to the neck is the bass pick up, closest to the bridge is the treble pickup. single pick up basses have a pickup or the pick up. It was always simple and defined until language was messed with by the unknowing......lol
