I have a bc rich mockingbird mid 80's that I'm trying to sell. I go online trying to figure out what it's worth and I've seen some that look exactly like it that sell for 2-3k and I've seen some that are listed for 900 bucks. What is the criteria for value? How do I know what price to put on it? Any help would be appreciated

neck thru, with just an R on the headstock?

$2-3k US normally is for a USA built BC Rich. >$800 is for the Japanese built models.

Two suggestions:
1. Put something in the thread title that gives us a clue as to what information you need, so the people who have that information will know to open your thread. Something like "BC Rich Mockingbird value needed - help!" would work.
2. Show a picture of the headstock and serial number/other identifying marks so people who might be able to help you have the information they need.

Good news is that's a USA
Bad news is it's a solid color (as opposed to maple or koa) it's the most common BCR shape and the market is in the toilet
I sold a mint black Mockingbird about a year ago for $1500 and it was a tough sell
Before CITES Japan was a big player in the market and helped keep prices up that combined with the fact that it seems all the usual BCR bass collectors are pretty set with what they have these days unless its uncommon or highly figured wood
If you're wanting a quick sale I'd price it as close to a grand as you are comfortable with otherwise that will be a permanent fixture on Reverb north of 2k
