I have found my "One"

Nice to have a bass you REALLY dig. I haven't had a bass that struck me like that immediately, but after having my US SB-2 for a couple years, and having 5 or 6 other NICE basses to go with it, I keep coming back to the SB-2. Let us know how it is in a live band situation. That's usually the kicker for me.

I told you so... ;). I gigged my BB1000s fretted and fretless basses for more than 20 years. Other much more expensive basses came and went (including a 1961 Jazz stack knob; 1960 Precision; Sadowsky Jazz with a serial number in the low 800's; and one of the first U.S. Lakland 4-94's ever made)

I kept my BB1000s twins until I "semi" retired from gigging. They were two of the best I ever played.

Out of curiousity, I sold my fretted BB1000s to a guy in Chicago (Played in a Paul McCartney tribute band) back in 2006 or so. That sure looks like my old bass. Any chance you bought her in the Chicago area?

Congrats from someone that has watched your quest from afar...going back to the old days on the 'Pit. I'm like you in that respect....an awful lot of basses have come and gone since those days and for me the search still continues...I'm glad you've found the one! Enjoy!!

It's an 80's baby, serial number 096668 if anyone knows how to track them.

Still in love, the thing almost plays itself. It really makes a half azzed player sound...........better :cool:

I've been through about a dozen P basses and will keep my old Aria P forever. Same thing with Jazz basses.....several customs, Fenders, MIJ Fenders but I'll always keep my Kubicki/Warmoth "Partsjazz" My new Axstar is my TV room bass as I can play it easily sitting on the sofa, that makes it a keeper.

Other basses will probably continue to come and go but I have a few that will always remain :)

With the P pup soloed it can do the tradtional P bass tone perfectly. It tends to growl more than a standard P with the treble bumped up slightly. Overall, I would say it's more growly than a typical Fender P/J with the J pup blended in. "My" tone really doesn't require the J pup to be soloed but it does sound nice on it's own.........Very FARTY with some Muwahhhh when I bend the strings ;) What I find very important is, the bass works VERY well with my favorite presets on my Zoom. Using the Zoom with the Ampegesque settings it can sound very warm.

+5 as a lifelong (till recent) fl boy...i agree the humidity and heat mixed in fl is NO JOKE... i had finish that had the inprint of the fur liing of the case marked into it from the heat...and hey just go to the Jaco story about him coming home to his fl home and upright bass to find the glue had resoftened and it was in pieces on the floor...but it is nice as i rarely had to adjust my neck as the temp is consistently 90% humidity and 78 to 99 most days...lol:crying:

It really comes into play with a neck thru. With the tension off the neck, bad things could happen fast.

I could not find my old insurance list for serial numbers, so I could not say for certain that it was my old bass. Strange coincidence that I sold mine to someone in Chicago and you bought this one from Northern Illinois, however.

If it is my old one, she was always a great player. I had her plekked in 2004 or so right before the very last session I ever used her for.

I think I have a few pictures of her laying around somewhere. Let me scan them and I'll post for comparison.
