I had previously been using Stringjoy nickle roundwounds in a custom set consisting from G-B of .45, .60, .85, .110, .140. diameters and achieving a very balanced set with a stellar low B string on my Tobias Killer B 5 string. I just missed the zing of stainless strings. I had recently put a set of Rotosound Bill Sheehan signature swing bass strings on an Epi Vintage Pro Thundebird and loved the zing and balanced tension. The Billy Sheehan string guages are .43, .65, .80, .110. They feel and sound very well balanced.

So I did a little searching and found that the RS66 stings are available as an individual .140!!! Unfortunately they were not available from any US retailers. 🙁 I ordered a couple to try from across the pond and I am happy to report that all is now right in my bass world. 😀 Solid fundamental across all open stings and plenty of zing! I just placed an order for a few more to keep around and add to the readily available Billy Sheehan sets.

SBL140 is the part number of the single .140 if anyone is interested.

I’ve never been happy. Tried 120 to 135.

For me, 125 has been a sweet spot.

I think a great B with harmonics as clear as E-G strings is impossible or just luck.

I have a 35” scale, too.

I only play 34" 5ers. And use .125 for 440 tuning, or .130 for 432 tuning
Depends on the string maker; some make excellent crisp B's that sonically match the rest of the E-G, and many don't.
