I hear you guys like mixed and matched speaker sizes

Last week, I had a gig where the sound guy was known to build fEARful crossovers. Yeah, one of those guys. Any way, the BL told me, so I brought two different fEARfuls to mix up and entertain the tech guy. Why? It was a class at a media school in a huge room with a 50 foot ceiling. The audience was a group of media students and two large high school tour groups.

My rig included two non-identical cabs, if inverting and stacking a reverse baffle fEARful (15/1/6) on top of a 15/6/1 and driving the 4 ohm pair with a bridged Crest Prolite3.0 can count as mixing cabs. :roflmao: :whistle::whistle::whistle:

The "joke" that there police who care about driver sizes, or that something terrible will happen with combinations like this is really stale.

No one ever said it can't work. All anyone ever said is there is a chance an odd pairing won't work.

OP have you gigged that stack? How did it work in a band setting?

Why not provide information pertinent to his situation? Nothing wrong with what he is doing but it is common courtesy to caution him so that he doesn't inadvertently damage his cabinet.

Definitely won't be gigging with it like this. Thanks a bunch for the info. I have a Subway 1x15 and 2x10 for shows. I picked up the Phil Jones cab for smaller open mics and jam sessions.

I miiiight have set it up this way for the comedy factor. Plus I was seriously interested in how it'd sound with the mix.

Edit: just want to say thanks for your work on the Genz Benz shuttle. It's been the most reliable and amazing sounding piece of gear I've owned. The Mesa cabs are brilliant. I bet you could make a crazy good 1x10 in a small form factor that would put this Phil Jones cab to shame.

I have a friend who rocks a block of those PJB cabs and they are surprisingly loud, have no shortage of bottom and are very responsive. I have been looking at 15" cabs recently but have yet to hear the Subway. From what little I understand sensitivity is very important when matching cabinets. I'm going to go out on a limb without looking at the specs and guess that the Phil cab is more sensitive as they were hella loud, especially considering their size. So please tell us how they sound and compare :)

The PjB has very little bottom end compared to any other cab I've owned with 10" speakers or larger. Still an impressive sound for the size and weight. It just does not move air. It gets loud, but not deep.

Not to my ears. It just sounds like a louder version of the 1x15. The Mesa Subway 1x15 is a truly exceptional cab. Definition for days, big fat round sounding lows, it just sounds so frickin right.
However, it doesn't fit in my Miata. The PJB does.

Already have the 2x10! The PJB cab is for open mics and smaller practices when I want to load in/out in a single trip. Many of the places I practice are terrible for parking and I was wearing myself out hauling bigger cabs back and forth. I'm not sure if I'll keep the PJB. Taking it to a practice space Thursday to see if it can keep up with a drum kit and Marshal half stack. If not, there's a 8x10 on site and I'll return it.

And you are glad for it, because he knows more about your situation that you do. And, his view is superior of course. You are supposed to thank him for saving you from yourself. Like the OP, who is barely within the law to even post such a picture. Its a good thing he has no cables connected. That would be a felony. As it is, he's likely to see a misdemeanor charge, now that he has incriminated himself with evidence.

Gotta laugh at ourselves, its Monday.
