The Geddy is no different -- people like to tweak them and come up with something unique. That's no knock on the GL and no knock on the people who buy them -- it's simply "different strokes for different folks."

Yeah, you can mod a bass until your heart's content, but I'm not sure I'd start with the GL. Seems like it was already modded to be GL's bass. may as well just start from scratch if it isn't what you are looking for, or try another model. It's not like fender makes 40 Jazz basses or anything.
 
nope fender make 37 variations of jazz bass bot 40 according to the catalog that inclues 4 and 5 string versions, fretless, signatures of varying costs, all regions (exept JP only). but doesnt include leftys or ash/alder variations as they are same model, doesnt include color options or board type either
