I just bought two GK Neo 4x10s. I have one question..

Hey, I have Mesa Prodigy full tube amp and I was looking a cabinet for it for my heavy metal bands more than two months and I was bored. Because I could't do A/b tests because music stores have a few cabs in Netherlands.

Yesterday, I saw discount(-250 euro for each) at Thomann web site for GK Neo 4x10s and I bought two of them for 8x10(signle 8x10 too heavy for me) configuration. I read about GK Neo, some says it is good, some says it has lack of low mids. But all reviews are about single 4x10. What do you think about 2x4x10? Can second 4x10 compensate low mid issue? What do you think about 4x10 + 115 instead of 2x410 also. Can someone compare? I don't have experience about cabs...

I am waiting delivery and my first gig will be few months later. So I can not test it with in mix for a while. Maybe I will bring them to one of our rehearsal.

Too much low mid can get horribly boomy:-( so is it a real criticism or is it just your usual old git Luddite reaction to a new magnet material?.
Unless you encounter stairs a tilt back and roll 8X10 is far easier to move than a pair of 4X10 cabs (Neo or otherwise) in my experience.
After all, Nothing is uphill in the Netherlands.:)X

I read lots but not this one. maybe 2x12 + 4x10 setup is better than 2x410. 2x12's more mid focused according to this thread. Mids are important for me( I think)...

Decisions, decisions... I have 30 days return window to Thomann.
I'd stick with the two 4x10s.
Similar cabs are always better than mixing. The 2x10 would hold back what the 4x10 can do.
Headroom is luxury you won't get with a 2x10+4x10 vs a pair of 4X10s

Forget what you read. It's ALL subjective. It's others peoples opinions.
What do YOUR ears tell YOU?

Spend a couple of weeks playing with the EQ on your amp.

I own a 4 ohm NEO 410 and although the bass and treble are a little hyped, there are still plenty of mids in that cab. I have never been lost in the mix or had trouble hearing myself with that cab with any amp I have ran through it. It was the most articulate 410 box I demoed when I decided to buy it. And since you will be using 2 of them stacked, the top cab will really be blasting you with mids. I don't think you will have anything to worry about. :bassist:

Wicked G nailed it in my mind...the GK Neo 410 is very strong in the low bass and quite present in the upper end, but a little EQ works well getting those cabs to balance right up in my limited experience with them. They will probably not give you the most convincing sealed 810 cab vibe, but there is no reason to think they'll not be able to deliver strong mids, and with a lot of punch and authority.

I couldn't decide, so I run one of each. Personally I like how the two cabs work together. The 410 cab is tight and punchy, but lacks some of the lows in my opinion that the 212 has. The 212 is a little more mid focused and fuller. Both cabs sound great by themselves, and sound good together. They seem to compliment each other. Now that I'm running an 400RB I couldn't be happier.

It's one of the best sounding club rigs I've ever ran. I still love my Ampeg but this really rocks.

Yup, totally agree with Al Kraft. It is not going to sound like a sealed 810 cab, but it is going to pack a lot of punch and authority while also remaining very articulate. I use that word "articulate" a lot with that cab because of it's amazing clarity which has a lot to do with the top end.

And I also agree that the NEO 212 and NEO 410 work very well together stacked. I have done that a few times as well with the 212 on top of the 410. IMHO, IME but YMMV.

Having done both, a pair of 4x10's is way more convenient. The only down side is that one 8x10 usually costs less than two of the equivalent 4x10s. Having two 4x10 cabinets not only allows you to be modular based on the room, but also provides flexibility when it comes to transporting them in a vehicle. As for wheels, I keep a small 4 wheel furniture dolly on hand. The 8x10 weighed a ton, wouldn't fit in my car, was sometimes too big for a venue, didn't store well in my home, didn't seem nearly as stable with a heavy rack on top of it as stacked 4x10 cubes, etc etc I could go on for days. YMMV

I choose pair of 4x10 because of stairs. Also want drop them to car myself. You are right about netherlands :D it is dead flat..

I'd stick with the two 4x10s.

Sometimes I miss your mantioned points. I need time with my toys ;)
well....everybody is going to have a different opinion.....the difference between 10 inch cone cabs and 12 inch cone cabs..and even 15 inch cone cabs...will be determined by each persons own ears...some people will swear that using the 10's and 15's together is the way to go...and I have heard this combo sound awesome...best to bi amp when you do this so you can send different levels to each different cab....the 4 x 10 cabs will move more air than a 15...and probably about the same amount of air as a 2x12....here again its preferance....the boys at greenboy fearless believe the 4x10 cabs have been overdone...not sure...but I dont believe they make a 4x10 cab...(somebody correct me)...they do build a 2x10...and since their cabs are custom built...I am sure they would build someone a 4x10.....I believe their emphasis is on the 12 inch cone cabs......as time goes on...I myself have been interested in the 2x12 cabs...especially two of them at a time...but I only prefer 4 ohm cabinets..........I am currently using two 4x10 ampeg SVT HLF cabinets with a SVT PRO 4 head...1250 watts at 4 ohms using channel A and B for the 2 speakers...the head will not do 2 ohms..so I do not use the mono bridge function with two 4 ohm cabs...for mono bridge with this amp...I use an ampeg 810E...which is a 4 ohm cabinet...its rated at 800 watts...the mono bridge mode will put out more wattage than using the A & B channels for 2 cabs..............the back panel of the mesa prodigy only has three 1/4 connects for speakers...it looks like there is a connection for a single 8 ohm speaker...and two speaker jacks labeled 4 ohms...but under the 4 ohm jacks it says use with two 8 ohm cabinets..?..by looking at this...I cant tell whether you can use two 4 ohm cabs at these connectors...it looks like it wants you to use two 8 ohm cabs and the internal parallel wiring will give you a total ohm load of 4...the manual says that the amp will not do a 2 ohm load...so in that sense...its the same as my ampeg...except that the mesa doesnt have neutrik connectors for speakers...and it doesnt have a mono bridge connect point...it also doesnt have an impedence selector and requires you to make the correct choice on plugging the speakers into the appropriate jacks.......I just dont like the 1/4 speaker connects on the back of the prodigy...I have to have the neutrik connectors...especially for high wattage use...but thats just me...your two 4x10 cabs should be fine...as long as you like them...thats all that matters...just make sure you can get the right hook up in relation to ohm load.......the back panel of your amp is certainly confusing in realtion to speaker configuration..and the manual does not clarify this either...it would appear an amp of that size should be able to push two 4 ohm speakers.......

You and other posters are right, everybody has different taste and opinions. I bought 8 ohm version of 4x10s because of prodigy's outputs, so they will fit according to prodigys manual. GK has options for 4 and 8 ohms 4x10.8 ohm. Also, you are correct ,there is no neutrik connectors that I don't understand why..

This is my first major cab shopping. This is why I curios. On the other hand, Thomann will send my cabs in December :(

This...i have a cheap Acoustic 8x10 i spent hours reinforcing the cabinet inside (its great now) and it rarely leaves the house....but i do NOT like a single 4x10 unless it is off the floor or tilted back.

A pair of GK 4x10 neos is what i would use with my GK800RB if i didnt have a pair of EV15L TL606 cabs and the 8x10....i think they sound great overall...good luck!

You got me! I have small station wagon so 8x10's dimensions are problem. Also I can load 4x10s into the car on my own. I have folding load carrier which can be very compact, easy peasy...
