The best idea I can think of is to get up before work and drink a good amount of coffee. Then, immediately get down to practice for a set amount of time. I can't think of any other stimulants that would be neither illegal, habit-forming, nor dangerous, so I would stick with coffee.
As for hearing the bass better in recordings, get a good pair of studio headphones (like Sennheiser) and learn to use the equalizer on your device that plays the music. Highlight the low-mids (around 300-1000 Hz) and cut extreme low (under 30 Hz) and high (above 10,000 Hz) and it should help, even if it makes the music sound poor. Remember, it is just to learn the bassline. Most basslines sit low in the mix of modern recordings.
Best of luck. And remember...JUST coffee!!
