Double Bass I Know its cheap but is it worth it?

I've been dying to get an upright. I work in a music store so I know that usually cheap just isnt worth it. In this case it's so hard to save up for a decent upright bass. I saw this and I'm just wondering if it's worth it for a beginner. If not then I guess I'll stick with my jazz bass and keep saving.

i got an es-1 second from Engle for like like 9hunny it rules , i love it it came set up with Dominants on it, i played it like i got it straight form the factory for nearly 9 months before i took it to the lutiher and got it set up for guts...its worth the trip from champaign fer sure..the factory is in elk grove i think . call em and ask, they will tell you what they have, and Why it is a second.. wether it is a split seem or a finish problem...

Imho you shouldn't totally discount CCB's. I was talking to my tattoo artist and he's buddy with the bassist from The Brains, apparently he never spends more than 500$ on a bass. Just keep an eye on the seems and whatnot, though Engel's are definitely worth the cash.

This implies he replaces his CCB often. The bassist from The Sinsters does the same thing, replaces his CCB after a few months when it breaks. These guys drag it all over the stage, stand on it, throw it, whatever. And when it breaks the cost of a buying new one is less than repairing a decent bass.

But for a beginner, a CCB is usually a big waste of money. Most likely, it will sound like crap and be difficult to play without costly upgrades. At that point, a decent bass in the first place could have saved alot of heartache.

I love my Cremona SB-2... paid like $699 for it... sounds great and its super durable.. (my wife threw it to the ground from a standing position once when we were fighting) havent had any issue with split seams or fingerboard coming loose... ebony by the way as well as the tailpiece... I love my Chinese-made ebay find, and I'd reccomend it to anyone else...

I love The Brains. He playes a coffin style bass. I doubt anyone builds a coffin bass for under $500.
