The initials W.T.F. comes to mind. As in the time that I was sitting in a quiet, mellow pub. Background music and the murmur of conversations, everyone was just chilling. A guy storms through the door, yells nonsensically as he knocks over tables and chairs for about 30 seconds. Then he stomps back out the front door. I figured W.T.F. were his initials since those were the words that everyone said after he left.

You have misunderstood my intent. I don't require yours or anyone else's approval for anything. My point was that I was wondering if a cheap junky DB was sufficient ONLY FOR LEARNING PURPOSES. My question was answered. No trolling here on my part. And this question was not answered by a search. Get over it.:spit:

I didn't get the answers because they did not pertain to my specific question. At least I didn't find them. So, no need to be smartasses, people. Just stay out of the thread if it bothers you so much.

Sorry, not picking on you, just the frequency and way these threads tend to run on. You actually did fine. I'm not snobbish on this issue particularly and I do think that there are good examples of affordable, playable student basses, but if you play a few really bad basses (that hopefully you didn't lay out money for) you'll understand. You did fine on this thread...but watch someone else will post the same question later this month, not like the answer and the thread will go on for 8 pages...for reasons I can't understand. For that matter, why did I get sucked into this?

Well...now we were friends there for a second. It's our forum. We read it and try to be an involved community day after day, year after year. Welcome, but remember that some of the people you're corresponding with have been here a while and some are actually pretty credibly experienced bassists and luthiers. (not me)

It's all good bro. I just don't get all the snarky comments. I asked a very specific question to which I didn't originally find an answer (regardless if it was out there or not), and it in fact got answered very early on in this thread to my satisfaction. I said my thanks and exited, then people got all uptight. It's a stupid bass forum for crying out loud. Why arguments break out here I'll never know...:bassist:

And don't forget I did acknowledge this subject gets covered a lot. I just thought my question was a little more specific than what I have have found on here.

It had nothing to do with you. Like I said it's a common question which means that we need to put together a better resource to answer the question. It got out of hand when we had an abrasive 6 month newbie telling the members that they don't know what they are talking about.

We have in the past got suckered into routine questions from people who were set on buying an Ebay bass yet they came for advice and just kept arguing that they should buy the bass.

Oh ok, my bad. I misunderstood where some of it was directed. Anyhoo, thanks for some of the info and like I said, as far as I'm concerned my question is answered. I did find my solution by the way, which I'm quite eager to explore:

Matt, I was wondering how long before they jumped all over you. If they are good at ANYTHING it is trying to offend every newcomer. Their best advice is to buy what they approve of. If its not $1500 it is not a bass. Everybody must have owned one of these cheap basses at one tine or else how could they be advising people not to buy them. You don' really know a product of ANY kind unless you have used it. You can't judge a new car by your experience with a 1970 model. Most have never played anything but their $1500 bass. I agree they didn' have an answer except their biased answer. Good luck on your bass playing.
