I know we rag on drummers but... this guy is the greatest.

If your audience digs it, why would your bandmates begrudge you the opportunity to be an entertainer? And why would you care what they think? If your bandmates want to be stuffed shirts, that's their problem.

When I do stuff like this and interact with the music and the audience, my bandmates look at me and grin.

Just ask...well, don't ask...Cliff Burton. He was one-of-a-kind when it came to taking his share of the spotlight. Nothing like a huge red mass of hair banging away in the corner of the stage. Foot up on a monitor, nodding on the 2 and 4.

Observe:


Notice how James and Kirk are all twitchy and uncoordinated, like most headbangers of that age...but Cliff was smooth and fluid. Made headbanging his own thing.

Not really saying "Be a Headbanger!" but it is possible to be active as a bassist actually look cooler than the rest of the band.
