For years I played the TH500 through a DB112 stack and it sounded fine, and then I bought a pair of SL112 cabs and I HATED the sound, almost sold the SL112s but then the AG700 came out. Game changer. They're a much better fit. I think that extra headroom is needed to really make the SL series cabs sing. I obviously love the tone I'm getting, but when I hear people say the SL cabs are the worst they've ever owned or heard it makes me wonder what you were using with them? What is your preferred rig of choice?

It's possible we have different tone goals but I've had a SVT-VR and a DB751 combined with a Bergantino NV610 and while they both sounded killer, they were also freaking heavy. I still have them, but almost always go to the AG700/SL rigs for anything but festival gigs.

Probably would've work out better if I could have a day or two to get more acquainted with one. I only played a TH 350 once for about 20 minutes so there's that too.

I’m team AG700, no question. I don’t hate the ToneHammer but I find the AG easier to dial in the tone I’m after without the faux tube amp thing.

At the time I was using a TH500 with them. They sounded boxy and thin with a high mid ganky ice pick sound that wouldn't go away no matter what. Used for 2 gigs and returned. It was when they first came out so maybe some changes have been made. Currently I use a Bergantino Reference 322 stack and to me they are the finest bass cabinets ever produced. As I said though, everyone hears different things and everyone has different taste. That is not a bad thing. But the Bergs IMO just massacre the SLs in tone and performance but the SLs are half the weight. So there is always a trade off.

Yeah, I think the TH500 is just a bad match with the SL112 which is funny because half of the Aguilar advertisements back in the day had a TH500 on top of a pair of SL112 cabs.

I've owned Bergantino cabs in the past, great stuff, and still own a NV610 which is a different style of cab all together, but glad you found what you were after!

Yeah when the SL cabs were released that was the head that "designed" to go with it. This is not a knock on Aggie at all, just that particular configuration which was a rough one for me. YMMV.

And yes the NV610 is a BEAST

An Aguilar AG700 has been my go to amp since it came out. Before that I had 2 TH500's. Still have a TH500 that I love using with my PJ5.

Many years ago I had 2 GS112's, but the weight finally got to me. After that I used Bergantino 112's and now Barefaced 112's.

Aguilar and Barefaced work together so well. That's just how I want my basses to sound. My bands agree.
