ever heard the saying "I got laid in hawaii?" well they probably meant lei, which are typically floral in nature and put around the neck.
wish I could go back to being in high school. BTW don't have the whole cap and gown thing. I ducked everytime someone tried steal a shot.
In Hawaii, it's tradition to give lei for various reasons. Especially at graduations, where people tend to get lei that can cover their faces. One or two is more typical for other formal occassions. They're given as a sign of honor for something, or other such thing. Congratulatory, welcoming, and other such uses. Politicians (local) get them a lot as well.
