Double Bass I mean, that’s one way to fix it

Many hardware stores have wooden plugs of varying sizes that would cover that bolt. If that bass were offered for $300 I might take a chance on it; that is, if I did not already have all the double basses I need.
Well, not =fix= it, but rather damage it more and pass it on.

Trust me, they could have done worse. And on a much better instrument. That will probably hold, as long as it doesn't take another shot to the side or back. I'd probably plug it and forget it.
I used to have a 9×13 cake pan in my shop with random hardware pulled from basses. I finally needed the pan for something else and started tossing the junk into an old porcelain coated milk pail. It's heaped over now.

Now that there's a bolt-on DB, I'm looking forward to seeing what a neck through looks like.

Actually, I was riffing a play on words. The only other things that I could come up with were "I've got no mind for you" or "If I could keep mind in a bottle."
Cool old Walker Turner 16" bandsaw; I had one for years. Square label- circa 1938? Do you have the cast iron base?
My guess is that the giant lag bolt in the original post is an improvement over the cheap imported junk that may or may not be holding the origibnal neck joint together.
