i might have to learn drums......

learn drums!

decades ago, my husband and a buddy both played guitar, but they could never find a drummer. finally the buddy decided to learn drums, and he got really good, particularly for fast, loud stuff like punk and death metal, but played other stuff, too.

i played e-drums for a while, starting out with simple rock, rudiments and limb independence exercises. it's lots of fun.

I cheated and bought a Beat Buddy so I wouldn't have to learn how to program decent drum patterns.

And yes, I too want to get a basic kit and learn. Partly for revenge on my downstairs neighbour, who thinks 10:30 on a Wednesday night is a great time to get stoned and crank up crappy power-metal.
Yes, it's petty and vindictive and will never lead anywhere good. Knowing that doesn't stop me wanting to.

We cant seem to hold down a drummer. Our old drummer cant gig but once a year, the replacement was a 30 year old child and moved to Baltimore anyway.

It has been a fruitless search trying to find a drummer that isnt flaky, a piece of garbage, or 65 years old and can only play country.

We have a practice kit and the rhythm guitarist and I are debating just hopping on it and learning drums. Has anyone made the switch to the darkside? Any advice? Or anyone know a drummer in OKC?

Also if i become the drummer should i fire myself?
I've been thinking about this too. We've also thought about just playing to drum tracks. Seriously. There is just something about drums that attracts a disproportionate amount of flake (and we all know how many flakey people there are in music in general).

A good teacher for drums may very well be a background in piano.
I studied classical piano from a young age until my early 20s, and while I have no chops and I can’t play 1000 mph, my limbs naturally have learned to think (well.. move...) independently of one another; I attribute that to the keyboard “right hand/left hand damper pedal sostenuto pedal” thing always going on.
Who knows

Even if you don't become Jojo Mayer learning some drum chops will help your bass playing. I giged on drums for many years and my take away is how much control the bass has over the feel and tempo of a song. The bass player can literally drive the band if he or she learns how. I was lucky enough to start my drum career with a really good, mature bassist to drive me.

Hey Bassdrums
