I miss nu-metal :(

nostalgic for nu-metal? does that mean its not nu anymore?:smug:

seriously, i couldnt give a crap about that, especially when you could be nostalgic for the 60's and 70's, when some of the greatest bands of all time were created and they pioneered new thinking about what can be done with an instrument. thats what im nostalgic for.

and try checking out some death metal. opeth comes to mind, although they're sort of they're own kind of music. nile, mayhem, etc. those guys have skill, although you gotta get past the voice.

Yeah, I know I can go listen to Opeth and Meshuggah and Herbie Hancock when I feel like good music, but for the sake of argument let’s pretend that nothing exists ’cept what I hear on the radio. Certainly that is the case for the many people, ignorant of resources other than the radio from which to gain musical knowledge.

When emo drops out of the mainstream, you'll complain that you missed the melodic blah blah blah. And the whiney nasaly voice.
BS, unless there’s someplace worse mainstream music can possibly go. I’ll admit I didn’t think it could get much worse than “Rollin, rollin, rollin, rollin…”

Did you grow up around Nu Metal, maybe you just miss the memories associated with the music.
I grew up around it, and the generation I went to high school with still retains the 90's Iowa youth culture portrayed in the movie Whiteboyz, so needless to say what I’ve called nostalgia has no basis in the fondness of memory, but arises despite its bitter taste.

That was before I was born, ancient history. I don’t think you can be nostalgic for something you didn’t live through or experience. Also, don’t forget that some of the undoubtedly worst music came from those times as well, and a lot of it.

Anyway, come on people. Who didn’t think that "ooooh-AH AH AH AH" was totally awesome?
I should also mention that I’m feeling nostalgic for N Sync. “Ain’t no lie baby Bye Bye Bye”

Why do you people look at the mainstream and talk about how bad music is nowadays? Sure Classic rock is good but it isn't the end either. There is plenty of good music out there, but I can assure you, only 1% of it is in the mainstream. Probably only 50% it is even recorded. Music is in a fine state if you ask me instead of your radio.

And Grug, people are still pioneering what can be done with their instruments. Check out Marc Ribot, John Zorn, Larry Lalonde, Skerik, Bill Laswell, and many more.

See I am confused on what "Mainstream" is. To me "mainstream" is what the magority of people listen to. Example of high school "mainstream" music Thursday. I seem to be the only person in my grade, who doesn't like them. Most people I talk to like them. I happen to like Theory of a deadman more. They say Theory of a dead man is more mainstream then Thursday. More people have the Thursday CD then the TODM CD. Doesn't that make Thursday more "mainstream" then Theory Of a Dead man?

Ok my point. I don't like the term mainstream. Whats mainstream for some isn't mainstream for all.

Nostagic for nu-metal? Dang! I'm nostalgic for big band and swing. music. :crying:

Just goes to show you how tastes change. Yes, I know remnants of the Tommy Dorsey orchestra still occasionally tour. But styles do change, just like automobile styles and clothing styles. You have to make an effort to find your favorite music once it has lost the favor of the "mainstream."
