I need a New Bass to paint!

So here's the story... I have a travel job, and I meet lots of really fun people on the road. One of the people I've met on the road is a talented artist from Seattle. I've recently introduced the artist to another friend, and she has offered to paint the face of friend #2 onto the body of a guitar or bass for me.

I already have a guitar painted by another talented artist, so this time I want to have a bass painted.

If you were going to have a custom paint job done, what bass would you use? I've got a few thoughts, but I want to see what other's might think.

(This is primarily going to be a wall hanger, but it's nice to have a player too)

If I understand you correctly, I'd buy an unfinished body from Warmoth or USA Guitars or Allparts or whatever. Jazz bass body with no guard or control plate.

I wish I had a bass face!

This is the guitar I had painted. It was painted by the guy who paints the bikes for Orange County Choppers. (That's my 67 Land Rover)

Definitely something without a pickguard, either rear-routed or a Jazz body with the control plate only. More "negative space" should give you more options for the layout and design. (Damn! I'm back in art school again!!)
