I need a solid back up bass that cuts, suggestions?

I'd never take my 55-94 somewhere it might be stolen, but I'd take my 55-01. $600-$700 range. If you beat it up or it's stolen, it's not like you've lost a '58 Relic Custom Shop! 55-01's will cut thru anything and you can definitely get a monster Disturbed/Mudvayne sound out of it.

I play rock/metal. It's all I know. With my 55-01, I can dial in Aerosmith "Sweet Emotion" and "Seasons of Wither"; T-Rex "Bang A Gong"; AC/DC "Hell's Bells"; Robert Plant "The Enchanter"; and Thin Lizzy "Dancin' In The Moonlight." I can get all those rock bass sounds w/very minor adjustments on my 55-01. Then I can boost the mids and bass, pan to almost all neck pup leaving the trebs high and tear into Disturbed "Stupify" and "The Sickness." All with this 55-01. Virtually no hiss even w/the treb pushed almost to the max! And I like that because you get a really nice "metal on maple" sound when you hammer down on the board, and that's whether you're finger picking or using a pick. I've got a 55-94, which is really sweet, but that inexpensive 55-01 is an absolute killer. I still prefer my Fender Custom Shop '58 Relic January NAMM for that Sting/Police "Roxanne" sound, but the 55-01 is amazingly versatile, very close to the sound of my 55-94 at less than a third of the price, and I consider it to be an amazing value on the bass market. I own really, really, really high end basses (Sadowsky NYC 5string, Surine, Alembic, Benavente) but in the price range we're discussing in this thread and in the genre of rock/metal............this bass can absolutely do the job, cut thru the mix, and still not make you vomit if you put a little ding in it. If I scratched my 55-94 or my Sadowsky (trans blue--see pic), I'd ****ing die!!!!!!!!!! Even if you put a ding going thru the finish on this natural 55-01 of mine (again, see pic), a good repair guy like Dan McCarthy at Dallas Guitar Repair could fix it in a heartbeat and for a very reasonable price.
