I need an amp makeover

Hello, My name is Megas3300 and I want to get better. :help:

Let me preface this by saying that I currently do not gig. And have no intention of regular/large gigs. Getting my CE degree takes precedence. That said, I become a gear-head about every hobby I get into.:D Bass included. Above all I wish to learn. I go out on co-op work next semester and will be making good money, so the GAS is burning a little. :) I am not looking to break the bank for a killer power machine, Just a small but good rig that will come in handy for a church or small gig.

My current setup is an Acoustic 260 (version 1) which has all of the feature of a brick. The cab has some good balls for what the package cost.

I wanted to make the step up into more big-boy(ish) rig and I (impulsively) bought a Hartke 210 XL cab. Which had more audio power and clarity, I liked its tone EXCEPT that it had no low end... I know, I know okay? A sealed 210, I should have expected nothing. But it is not very easy to compensate with the EQ.

I am about ready to sell everything and start anew. The 260 is good and all, but I can't do much with it, and the Hartke 210XL was a mis-step. I have my sights leveled on a decent micro-head.

The BX250 Micro Bass by Carvin has my eye now, seems to have the features I want at a price I can pay.

I am a bit behind in the world of cabs... from my limited view, ported cabs seem to be popular for nearly everything. Would I be looking in the right direction with a ported 112?

I dig the tone of the bass in Money for Nothing and Long Train Runnin, but I am after good versatility with a useable low end that I don't have to force out using an EQ.

I know the above is a lot to swallow, but I need a helping hand in the right direction. :help:
