If it helps.... Rickenbacker has single coil, passive pickups. Pedulla has an active pre-amp and usually Bartolini pickups. Rickenbacker is mostly machine (CNC) made, Pedulla is hand made. One of the reasons (not the only, but one of) Pedulla is priced higher for new basses, is the fact that they are hand made - you are essentially buying a boutique instrument.

Beyond that, you might want to check out YouTube videos using a good set of headphones or speakers to see which one has the tone you are looking for.

I need another bass, (like I really need one) and am torn between a used Pedulla MVP4 and a Rick 4003/4. I think I could get one for about the same price. Unfortunatly I can't get my hands on either to play. What is the overwhelming consensus from the knowledgeable TB members?

what kind of music do you prefer to play? ( If applicable, "All genres" is an answer)

Both the Ric and the Pedulla are wonderful basses. For rock/blues, I would personally choose the Ric.
