I Need EQ Help!!

Hey everyone...maybe someone can help me and give me some suggestions on how to set my EQ., First off...I play in a metal band so I need a good sound for that. I am using an Ashdown MK-500 Mark King sigbature head thri an Ampeg SVT 610 cab and a G&L L-5500 bass w/EMG soapbars. I'm looking for a sound w/a nice crisp high end and a fat, yet punchy low end...I have my sound almost how I want...I have the low as and highs in the EQ boosted and the mids all but scooped out...the hohjs sound great and the lows rumble your gut...but the lows lack punch, they're a bit muddy and the overall sound lacks cutting power. The amp has a 10 band EQ. Ive tried boosting the mids some and that helps me cut through better... but tends to trake away from the low end and still can't get that punch...can anyone help??

Thanks!

Keep your lows boosted, but boost your low mids too. You have to or you won't cut through in the mix. So on your graphic, boost the lows and low mids, then cut the mids and high mids down a little, then bring it back up when it gets to your highs. You need mids. The combination of lows and mids are what shakes your insides.

On your amp, the 180hz slider will be your best friend for getting the punch you want. It might also be best to keep your bass knobs flat and mess only with the amp head. It works really well if you set the highs first, then the mids, and last the low end. You end up defining your tone really well and you will be able to add a large amount of lows without killing your tone.
