I need help picking my first bass head

what was the "entry level" amps they were showing you?.....most amps these days aren't really entry level......wondering if that is what the sales guy said to help in his pitch of selling $1000+ amps.....
honestly, get down to your local L& McQ.......try the Traynor SB500 head...it is loud, great tones, great tone variations, light, made in Canada :thumbsup:....it will be all you'll need for a long time....let me tell you I have the SB200 head and through your cab it would be seriously loud as well.....you would be fine with the 200 watter .....really big bang for the bucks, both of them....
the Fenders mentioned above are killer as well....

.what is your 210 cab?

Op talking about 5lb micros haha.

V4b... an amp.named after a booster phase in the apollo program.

It is a killer guitar head too. I think geddy lee used one for the dirty component of his sound back in the 70s ric days running the bridge pickup to it and the neck pickup to something else, though it might have been sunn, I forgot. But a 100w tube bass head on the bridge and a 300 on the neck.in the ric o sound mode

I have a Genz Benz GBE 750 for sale 750watts@2ohm 675watts@4ohm you can add another cab later and it is loud..

They didn't have any in stock. I might try the other long on the other side of town. They didn't try and sell me the expensive one. Just showed me what they had around $400 or less. I tried a small fender combo, and a svt micro? and a couple others I cant remember After trying these I decide to increase the budget and get a cab head and then be able to upgrade as I go.

My cab is a seismic, I am sure it will be good enough for now. I don't play loud and its for practice at home. I would like to buy a head I can grow with or at least has good resale I guess. lol

My vote would be with GK. They sound great, they work well for a lot of different musical styles, the prices are great and they are reliable. The MB series is incredible power and value, especially if you don't mind buying used. I see MB200s sell for $200 all day long. And those heads weight like 3 pounds or something silly like that.

Let me just derail this by pointing out the obvious
TB advise, used is always a lot more bang for the buck.
G-K 400RBs can be found all day long for $150-200USD.
Being in CAnada, Traynor is a good bet.
PVs aren't at the top of the sound quaality scale, but
are about a reliable as anvils and are always a lot of bang for the buck.

If you are starting out you may want to go the SB200H as it has Aux in and Headphone out for silent practice and song learning.

I have a bh250 that i gig with all time. I run through a Kustom 4x10 and 1x15 stack and it sounds great. Tone print is fun to play around with but honestly i mostly just use a comp. its nice not having to drop $100 on a pedal when you can do so much with this amp. Ive been complemented by sound guys as to this amps tone, and even at 250w I've had to turn it down, so there,s plenty of headroom. I really like how small it is so I can throw it in my gig bag to go to practice or shows that provide cabs. whats really cool for som body whos using it for practice is the headphone amp and input jack. So you can put on pair of headphones and play a drum track through the input (i use youtube videos on my tab) and jam some 12 bar 'til your fingers bleed without bugging anyone. This is a great amp that sounds good through a 8 inch speaker or 8 10's. highly recommended. /,,/

I have the SB500H Traynor and I love it, You should be able to rent one really cheap and try it out. But from your post, I gather you may like the SB200H. I have one of those as well and it is amazing. I guess if you have the bucks I would go with the 500 for future expandability, but do think the 200 would work for you. As cheap as they are to rent in Canada, try both before you buy.
