I need to find a guys address from the internet.......

OK, here is the confusing story.

Sunday morning my jeep was broken into and Stammie was gone. I made a police report.

Monday morning an ad pops up for my bass on CL but i dont see it until Tuesday morning, I call the police and am waiting for a call from a detective.

While at work waiting for the call from the detective I get a call from a "trucker" in Illinois. he says he bought my Bass Sunday at a truck stop around noon for $85 and started to feel bad about it and called the local paper to see if there was a lost and found ad. He says that the lady at the paper looked up CL lost and found and got my # there.

I Western Union him $150 buck to repay the $85 he spend on it and shipping (plus an extra few bucks for his trouble). The last time i spoke to him he says he is in the UPS store shipping it and he will call me with the tracking # in a few minutes. He never calls, all the calls I place to him go straight to voicemail. This is the end of the trucker in the story so far.

The detective never calls so I keep searching on the internet to catch the kid from the CL ad and with the help of a few friends who are emailing him for me find out his Cell # and full name.

When my friends ask for pics he sends some links. The links he is linking to for pics of the bass are on his myspace site which is set to private.

I remove all of the bass stuff off my personal myspace acct and add him as a friend. it takes him a few days to accept but he eventually does. The pics are of my bass so i am 100% sure now it is my Stammie.

Today, I goto the cops and give them everything I know including my pics of the bass, his pics of the bass and a big ol' pic of him. They take a report :hmm:

My buddy emails the kid with the bass and gets his address to stop by and look at it.

I go to lay down some tracks in the studio and then go back to the police with his address. I am told they would do what they can.

about 4PM I get a call from the detective and discuss my case with him. He apologizes but our PD has lost 10 detectives and 30 patrol officers with the budget cuts. Also due to some police related incidents in the past he said "the days of going to a bad guys house and just arresting him are over" they need risk assessments, approvals and a bunch of other BS just to goto to a house to arrest a guy. :eyebrow:

I express my concern about their inability to do anything and suggest that I may report a fight at his address in 30 minutes ;) The detective calmly informs me that if I report a firearm involved they will get there quicker :ninja: :D

Finally he sighs and says "do you think he will stil have the bass tommorrow?" I said probably and then we start to set up a sting operation :hyper::hyper::hyper:

My buddy called and said he could not come by tonight but how about the morning. The kid said sure. The cops will have a plain clothes officer claim to be my buddy and go to see the bass and arrest him and get my shizzle back!!!!!

i may just have my faith in law enforcement restored yet. Once I got in touch with the right guy he made stuff hapoen really quick even with the system working against him.

I hear rumors that the cops are redirecting most of their personel towards license plate oriented traffic stops.

Go get'em, Kojak!

I must be getting old.

Careful with that, I remember your opinion of old people! :p

At any rate, Jady, I really hope that you get this bass back. I have to give you credit for maintaining a clear head up to this point, it's gotten you a hell of a lot farther towards getting your bass back than I think most people get.
I am curious about the trucker though... this guy apparently scammed you out of $150?? What an a-whole...

Sorry, but I'm pretty sure that was a scam and the "trucker" is not even a trucker.
(as in "Oh, I can't bring it to you because I'm on the road, but..." and you know the rest of the story.)
Craigslist is ripe pickings for scammers of this sort.

Bottom Line:

Sending Money by Western Union = Flushing Money Down The Toilet

Well, considering the PD is now with Jady on this one, he'll either end up spending 150$ and getting one bass, or end up spending 150$ and getting two basses.

I think it's not so bad.
