I Play SS Because...

For me short scale is a huge drawback because less string choice available. I like a fairly stiff tension in strings and play downtuned quite often. Not being able to find or use thicker strings is a downer.
If I were to switch over to SS I'd always feel I left allot of tone choice on the table and feel the need to justify it.

Short Scale is lighter and easier to play (unless you have huge mitts).

The tone is what some people object to. SS has more fundamental and less harmonics. Sometimes that is the required sound, but most of the time it is not.

And because I'm old, the opinion of some 12 year old beating the bejesus out of some bass in the music store and annoying the actual customers with money and explaining why only long scale basses with brand new rounds and maple bodies with active electronics produce good tone really means nothing to me.

I prefer it because I actually like the sound it gives and it's more comfortable.

I like a short-scale bass because the thin strings sound thicker!
