I Tell You, We Don't Get Any Respect

... the male of the couple (my friend?) started bashing the Bassist saying all he does is play dum pause, dum dum, pause, dum, pause, dum dum... this couple likes to invite themselves to our house in Palm Springs and stay in our Casita for a free vacation...

Forget those deadbeats! If I had a nice, little casita in Palm Springs, I'd hold summer bass clinic/jam/BBQs and invite all my bass-playing friends over for the best bass guitar fiestas ever. :D :bassist:

Best advice yet.

Your girlfriend should stand up for you and tell them to get lost.

Tell you'd do the same if your friends were dissing her.

If she won't tell them then I think you need to have a discussion about your relationship with her.

IME, they are using you guys for freebies and such while really jealous of you and not being shy about expressing their feelings in a negative manner. Freedom of speech is not a one way street.

Rule to live by: If someone expresses himself to you then you are given permission to express yourself.

We live full-time here in Palm Springs and the Casita is like a seperate guest house with outside entrance and it is used as my Man Cave. PA, Guitars, Keys, Basses & Amps and we jam and rehearse here, so when they are here it's cluttered with suitcases, blankets & air beds and useless to me and my sons. I also have my gaming PC in there and can't own on Call of Duty or Battlefront. :( The least they could do is take us to PF Changs and Ruth Crisp Steakhouse and concerts, but what do they want to do? Play Canasta. BORING! I was kinda rude to them by not going along with hardly any of their activity suggestions. At first I felt a bit guilty but then thought, naw.

Unless a Bassist is a lead singer or is up front and playing leads on Bass like Jaco or Stanley Clark or jumping all around like Dee Dee Ramone, Bassist's are almost ignored by non-musicians. However, like someone said here. Take the Bass out of the song and it sounds very empty. In fact, at this one gig I was in my car between sets transferring Flip HD Video to my laptop cuz the memory wasn't gonna be enough to record the whole gig. Suddenly I hear them starting the next set, Elton John's Saturday Nite, I walk in and sit down and listen (with daggers in my eyes). It sounded so empty without me. Needless to say, I quit that band soon after, but that's another story.
That SUX! But at least they knew better than to let someone play your gear while you were away!

Tell your friend he can't stay at your vacation home until he takes up bass and gets good enough to be paid for it.
