Double Bass I tried a Reid Hudson bow

I took my bass to the luthier and had a chance to briefly try a Reid Hudson bow, german Vienna style.

Needless to say that I liked it a lot; I really loved how well its frog fitted my hand (Streicher school).

I was afraid to ask the price , although I'll do .

I would like to know of other makers offering german bows with that kind of frog. Especially if the price is lower than what I presume the RH will cost.

A lot of makers make a shorter frog, or can if you request one. Many offer both "models" of German bows, but some don't list that they do on their websites, if they have a website at all.

Zdzislaw Prochownik makes them, and last I recall his bows were under $2000 CAD
Reid Hudson does, but I belive his bows are more in the $4500 CAD range
Max Kasper in Halifax, but he usually has a wait list for his bows of 6 months to a year, and I am not sure what his prices are.

I am sure that others do as well, those are just the three that come to mind at this point.

Thanks for all the info. I really need a better bow, mine pulls a good tone, but it's a little unconfortable for long sessions (and the grip I use).

Hi, Max Kaspers bows are great. He sells them for around $2000CAD.

Dölling bows. The frog of this was designed by Streicher...
